What is SI-Drive?
Subaru designed the Intelligent Drive system in 2007 to debut with that year’s Subaru Legacy. With Intelligent Drive, drivers can select the level of engine performance using a rotary dial on the middle console. There are three available options: Intelligent, Sport, and Sport Sharp.
How Does it Work?
Subaru engineers designed the Intelligent Drive system to control the response of the electronic throttle system, and the fuel and ignition responses in order to modify a Subaru engine’s torque output. This means that, when you change the mode, you are completely changing the way that your Subaru performs.
What Makes It a Great Addition to a Subaru?
The SI-drive system allows for personalized control over the performance of the vehicle. For instance, Intelligent mode provides comfortable performance in town, and can increase fuel mileage by 10 percent with its lower torque output and a system will signal to you when it is the most fuel-efficient time to shift gears. It is also a great setting to use if you are driving on a slippery, low-traction surface. Sport mode provides responsive acceleration, which makes it good for merging onto the freeway or winding up mountain roads. Sport sharp increases response even more, making you feel as confident as possible when you step on the gas pedal in your Subaru.
